SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore John-Austin Ricks scored in the 84th minute with the Orange a man down and No. 8/11 Syracuse tied Princeton, 1-1, in double overtime at the SU Soccer Stadium in its home opener. The game was part of the Central New York Classic.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
After neither team scored in the first half, Princeton (0-0-1) took the lead in the 70th minute. Orange goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert saved Daniel Bowkett's shot, but the ball deflected to Frankie DeRosa, who put his shot in the back of the goal for the Tigers' first goal of the season.

The Orange (2-0-1) were forced to play a man down after they were issued a red card in the 74th minute. Princeton had a chance to add to its lead in the 84th minute when Jeremy Colvin went one-on-one with Hilpert, who stopped the shot to keep it a one-goal game. Syracuse moved the ball into its offensive zone and Ricks tied the game with a perfect shot from 30 yards out over Tigers' goalkeeper Jacob Schachner.
Â
The Orange earned three corner kicks in the final two minutes of regulation, but couldn't convert, sending the game to overtime. It was Princeton that had a chance for the win at the end of the first overtime session, but the Syracuse defense blocked back-to-back shots to keep the game tied. Ricks tried to net the game winner early in the second overtime, but his shot went just wide. Schachner saved freshman Petter Stangeland header in the 107th minute and the game ended in 1-1 tie. Â
