The No. 3 Syracuse field hockey team (7-1, 1-1 ACC) scored first in Saturday's ACC battle with No. 16 Wake Forest (4-3, 2-0 ACC), but the Demon Deacons answered the Orange's tally and won the game in overtime to hand 'Cuse a 2-1 loss.

After another scoreless first half, the Orange got on the board with just over 20 minutes remaining, as Jennifer Bleakney drove baseline and sent a ball into the circle. Elaine Carey finished the ball in front and gave 'Cuse a 1-0 lead.

Julie Grashoff answered the Orange's goal shortly after, when she drove baseline and flicked the ball over the diving Borg van der Velde to knot things up at one. The goal was the first the Orange defense had allowed this season in nearly 542 minutes of play.

After both teams threatened in the waning moments, the game headed to overtime. 'Cuse had the first crack at a goal, with Laura Hurff sending one just wide, before Nicola Pluta drove into the circle and fired a backhand shot for the game-winner in the second minute of overtime.

Syracuse will be back in action on Sunday against Rutgers.
