Rowed for the Princeton men's lightweight team
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Jason Elefant, a lightweight rower at Princeton from 2011-15, has joined the Syracuse men's rowing coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Dave Reischman announced on Monday.
"When we started our search process, I called around to some fellow coaches for their recommendations and Jason's name kept coming up," Reischman said. "I always look for new coaches that can offer a different perspective on our coaching staff and Jason's experience as an athlete at Princeton and coach at St. Paul's in London will allow him to do just that."
"I am humbled and excited to have the opportunity to work at Syracuse University with the men's rowing team," said Elefant. "Dave and Justin have done an outstanding job of building a nationally-competitive program and I'm looking forward to contributing to the team's success."
A native of Hamilton, N.J., Elefant spent the past two years as a Colet Fellow and assistant rowing coach at St. Paul's School in London, where he assisted with the J15 and J16 groups. In his time, the senior first varsity eight crew participated in Great Britain junior national team events and the Henley Royal Regatta.
A 2014 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) All-Academic Team honoree, Elefant was a four-year member of the Princeton men's lightweight rowing program. As a freshman, he earned an eighth place showing at the IRA Championship Regatta in the open four with coxswain. Elefant also participated in the 2012 United States U23 lightweight four without coxswain camp.
"He was very successful as a student-athlete at handling the demands of performing at a high level both academically and athletically and he will be a great mentor for our student-athletes in that regard," Reischman added. "We are very excited to have him on our staff and very much looking forward to getting started on the coming year."
Elefant and the Orange men's rowing team will open the autumn season on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass.
