CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – No. 7/14 Syracuse travels to Charlottesville to take on No. 11/6 Virginia on Friday, Sept. 7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opener for both teams. Match time is set for 7 p.m.

ORANGE IN ACC OPENERS
Syracuse (3-0-1) is 1-2-1 all-time in ACC openers. The one victory came at North Carolina State last season. The Orange will open conference play on the road for the fourth time in the last five years.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia enters Friday's game with a 3-0 record. Two of the Cavaliers' wins have come in overtime. Virginia is tied for second in the ACC in goals per game (3.00).

Edward Opoku is the Cavaliers' leading scorer. He has three goals and two assists this season for eight points. Opoku is tied for second in the ACC in points per game (2.67) and tied for fifth in points. Jeff Caldwell has played every minute in goal for Virginia. He has a 0.94 goals-against average and a .786 save percentage.

THE SERIES
Syracuse and Virginia will meet for the third time and the first since 2014 when they take to the pitch on Friday. The teams have split the two previous meetings, both of which were played at the SU Soccer Stadium.

In the last contest between the two squads, Virginia came to Syracuse as the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. Senior defender Skylar Thomas scored the only goal of the match in the 31st minute and Alex Bono made four saves in the Orange's 1-0 victory. The win marked Syracuse's first against a top-five opponent since 2000 when the Orange defeated No. 1 Connecticut.

Syracuse begins a four-game homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 12 when it hosts Oregon State at 7 p.m. Admission and parking at the SU Soccer Stadium are free of charge.
