Ebangwese’s Record-Setting Night Leads Syracuse Past Dartmouth

Hanover, N.H. – Santita Ebangwese recorded a match-high 18 kills and set a Syracuse women's volleyball single-match record .739 hitting percentage in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-17) victory over Dartmouth (1-3) Friday night at Leede Arena. The Orange (4-4) dropped the first set, but were able to rally and win the following three sets to come out on top.
Annie Bozzo posted a career-high and match-leading 48 assists and Belle Sand added a team-high 16 digs. Ebangwese also tied for a game-high six blocks.
How It Was Decided
Dartmouth broke a 10-10 tie in the first set with a 6-2 run and held on to win 25-22.
Syracuse answered back immediately, jumping out to an 18-8 lead in set two. 'Cuse controlled the remainder of the set and won 25-14.
The Big Green jumped out to a 15-13 lead in set three, but the Orange were able to come from behind and take the set, 25-21.
In the match-winning set, Syracuse never trailed and closed out the game with a 25-17 victory.
Coach's Thoughts
"I think we did a good job at standing up as a group and making adjustments as we needed to," said associate head coach Erin Little. "No matter who the opponent is, we need to be ready to play at each and every game. The girls really stepped up after the first set."
Of Note
Ebangwese's .783 hitting percentage (18-1-23) is the program single-season record with a minimum of 20 attempts. Her performance also ranks third with a minimum of 15 attempts.
With the 16 digs on the night, Sand now ranks 7th in program history for career digs with 1,186.
What's Next?
The Orange will face Sacred Heart and Iona on Sep. 9 at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively, to finish tournament play at the Dartmouth Invitational.
