Orange Ranked No. 7 in Preseason Coaches Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse will enter the 2018 season ranked No. 7 in the preseason Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, which was released on Monday, Jan. 29.

Defending national champion Maryland received 24 first-place votes and 624 points to take the top spot in the poll. Stony Brook is ranked No. 2 after earning one first-place vote and 582 points, while North Carolina came in at No. 3 (546 pts.). Penn State (511 pts.) and Florida (501 pts.) round out the top five.

Boston College is No. 6 (475 pts.), followed by the Orange (465 pts.). USC is ranked No. 8 (436 pts.), while Princeton is No. 9 (424 pts.). Navy took the No. 10 spot with 422 points.

The Orange were one of three teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) ranked in the top 10 and one of six ranked in the top 25. Syracuse will take on four of the top six and 12 of the top 25 this season. The Orange's home slate includes contests against No. 1 Maryland, No. 3 North Carolina and No. 5 Florida. Syracuse will go on the road to face No. 6 Boston College and No. 9 Princeton.

Syracuse opens the 2018 season on Feb. 9 when it hosts Connecticut in the Carrier Dome at 5 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
