SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 20 Syracuse played to a 0-0 draw against Boston College in the regular-season finale on Friday, Oct. 26 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange will enter next week's ACC Tournament with a 7-5-4 record, including a 1-4-3 mark in league play.
Â
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Syracuse dominated the match statistically and was the more dangerous team throughout the game. The Orange recorded 24 shots, nine of which were on frame, while Boston College (4-7-4, 2-5-1) had nine shots.
Â
A flurry of shots in the 13th minute nearly gave Syracuse an early lead. Sophomore Tajon Buchanan's chance was blocked by Eagles' goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borrelli. The rebound went to freshman Ryan Raposo on the left side. His first shot was blocked, and his second shot off the rebound went just wide. The Orange continued to apply pressure and ended the half with 13 shots, but Chavez Borrelli made six saves to keep the game tied at 0-0.
Â
Syracuse again outshot Boston College in the second half, 9-4, but neither team could find the back of the net as the match went to overtime. The Orange maintained possession for the majority of both overtime sessions with the Eagles getting their chances on counter attacks.
Â
A corner kick in the 109th minute gave Syracuse the final opportunity for the game winner. Senior Hugo Delhommelle served the ball into the box where he connected with junior Massimo Ferrin. Ferrin's shot went off the crossbar and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Â
"We're disappointed – the guys' effort and commitment tonight were fantastic," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. "We know on our night we can compete with any team. Tonight, I thought we were good. We created a lot of chances, especially in the first half, and late in the second. We kept a clean sheet against a good Boston College team. We just lacked a little bit of quality in front of goal tonight."
Â
OF NOTE
The shutout was the fourth of the year for the Orange and third for goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert. He now has 23 in his career, which give him sole possession of third place on Syracuse's all-time leader list.
Â
Prior to the match, the Orange celebrated its senior class. Adnan Bakalovic, Jan Breitenmoser, Jonathan Hagman, Kamal Miller, Len Zeugner, Delhommelle and Hilpert were honored in a pregame ceremony. The group has led Syracuse to an ACC Championship, two NCAA Tournament appearances and a trip to the College Cup for the first time in program history.

UP NEXT
The Orange open play in the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. The complete bracket will be announced on Saturday, Oct. 27.
