Syracuse, N.Y. – The 13th-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team returns home this weekend for a pair of games against Atlantic Coast Conference foe No. 8 Boston College on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by a clash with Cal on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Orange (6-4, 0-3 ACC) look to bounce back after a tough 5-1 loss to No. 1 North Carolina on the road last weekend in ACC action. Fans can watch both games on the ACC Network Extra.
Freshman Tess Queen scored her first collegiate goal in last Saturday's loss to the Tar Heels and leads the team with five assists. Roos Weers and Chiara Gutsche lead the Orange with 12 points apiece while Gutsche paces 'Cuse with six goals.
Goalkeeper Borg van der Velde is coming off a career-high 11 saves against UNC. She has a .758 save percentage in 10 games this season and has tallied 47 saves. Offensively, Syracuse averages 10.3 shots per game and has had 48 penalty corners through the month of September.
Boston College enters Friday on a four-match win streak most recently earning a 3-0 road win over Fairfield. The eighth-ranked Eagles are 3-1 on the road and have been led by Brooke Matherson who has six goals and 15 points on the season. Boston College has had five shutout victories this season including their last three games.
