Orange's Offense Comes Alive in Setback to No. 23 NC State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's soccer team's attack saw major breakthroughs Thursday night inside SU Soccer Stadium, outshooting No. 23 NC State and scoring a season-high three goals. The offensive barrage was not enough, however, as the Orange suffered a 6-3 setback against the nationally-ranked Wolfpack, moving their record to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference action.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Junior forward Sydney Brackett gave Syracuse a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the match. Her corner kick curled into the goal, bending around the outstretched arms of NC State's goalkeeper Sydney Wootten.

Ahead by one, the Orange maintained their advantage until NC State's Maxine Blackwood scored her first of three goals in the 10th minute. The Wolfpack took the lead in the 16th minute on Tziarra King's goal and would enter the half up 2-1.

NC State scored three times in the first 15 minutes of the second half, including Blackwood's second and third, and never looked back, tacking on four total goals across the final 45 minutes of the match to win, 6-3.

OF NOTE
Freshman forward Meghan Root scored her first career goal in the 65th minute to cut the Orange's deficit to 5-2. She finished the match with a team-leading three shots, all of which were on goal.

Sophomore midfielder Stephanie deLaforcade's goal in the 75th minute was the first of her career, as well. Her goal gave the Orange their third of the match, marking a season high.

Senior forward Drina Domic earned her first career assist and point on Root's goal while sophomore midfielder/forward Mackenzie Vlachos tallied her second assist of the season - and career - on deLaforcade's goal.

The Orange outshot NC State, 12-7, behind Root's three shots. Vlachos and fellow sophomore midfielder/forward Kate Hostage provided strong offensive efforts, as well, both tallying two shots.

WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange continue their homestand against No. 3 UNC at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, before finishing up against Notre Dame Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
