SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman forward Meghan Root scored her second goal in as many games, but the Syracuse women's soccer team could not slow No. 3 North Carolina's attack despite redshirt senior goalkeeper Jordan Harris' career-high 11 saves, suffering a 7-1 setback Sunday afternoon inside SU Soccer Stadium.

The Orange are now 3-11 overall and 0-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
North Carolina took the lead in the fifth minute and tacked on another goal in the 25th minute to go up 2-0.

Syracuse responded to the adversity just three minutes later. Root corralled a header from sophomore midfielder/forward Kate Hostage and fired a shot into the back of the net, cutting the Orange's deficit to one.

The nationally-ranked Tar Heels scored again in the 35th minute to enter the half up 3-1. North Carolina would score four more times in the second half before winning 7-1.

OF NOTE
Root's goal was her second of the season and second of her career. She recorded her first goal just a few days ago, scoring against No. 23 NC State in the Orange's 6-3 setback Thursday night.

Hostage's assist was her first of the year, extending her team-leading points total to nine. Meanwhile, fellow sophomore midfielder/forward Mackenzie Vlachos had a team-high two shots.

Harris, who played all 90 minutes in net, made 11 saves, including one on a penalty kick. Her 11 saves were a career high, as she recorded her previous career best of seven saves in a 1-0 loss at Louisville earlier this season.

WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange finish their homestand against Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, before heading to Charlottesville to face Virginia at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.
