SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football team returns to the Big Apple for a marquee matchup with Notre Dame on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Yankee Stadium. The Orange enter the contest ranked 12th in the Associated Press Top 25, Amway Coaches Poll and College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, while the Irish own the third slot in all three polls.
ORANGE IN RUTH'S FIRST AND SECOND HOMES
Syracuse has a history of playing important contests in Yankee Stadium, known as "the House that Ruth built," as well as "new" Yankee Stadium, which the Babe deserves some credit for as well. The Orange have had eight matchups there, starting with a 3-0 victory against Pittsburgh in 1923. The pairing represented the first college football game ever played at the ballpark.
The Orange returned to the Bronx for back-to-back encounters with NYU in 1940 and 1941. Syracuse posted 47-13 and 31-0 triumphs. The program's only loss at Yankee Stadium was a 9-6 decision at the hands of Army in 1960. Three years later, in 1963, Syracuse was back at the ballpark again, this time to defeat Notre Dame, 14-7. That game was played on Thanksgiving Day in 1963. The Orange avenged the earlier loss to the cadets in 1964 by defeating Army, 27-15.
Syracuse's last two appearances in Yankee Stadium have come in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The Orange defeated Kansas State in the 2010 inaugural affair 36-34 and returned in 2012 to take down West Virginia, 38-14.
WHICH SIDELINE DO I GO TO?
Notre Dame defensive coordinator Chuck Lea is familiar to Syracuse fans. Lea was the linebackers coach with the Orange from 2013-15. He also coached previously with current Syracuse grid boss Dino Babers. Lea was a graduate assistant coach at UCLA in 2006. Babers was the running backs coach for the Bruins.

YANKEE STADIUM NEIGHBORS
Syracuse freshman defensive back Trill Williams is from Yonkers and grew up within 10 miles of Yankee Stadium. He attended Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains, helping the school to the 2017 Catholic High School Athletic Assocation (CHSAA) state title. Williams has had a productive rookie campaign with appearances in all 10 games. Freshman offensive lineman Qadir White will also be in familiar surroundings on Saturday. White, who is from the Bronx, attended Cardinal Hayes High School, which is in within walking distance from Yankee Stadium. White has not seen game action in his first season with the program.
2,000 YARDS A DUNGEYÂ ODYSSEY
Only one signal-caller in Syracuse history has ran for more than 2,000 yards in his career. Bill Hurley accumulated 2,551 yards on the ground during his tenure, which lasted from 1975-79. Current quarterback Eric Dungey is closing in on the milestone – he enters Saturday's encounter with the Irish with 1,929 rushing yards.
When Dungey reaches the plateau he's be the 23rd Orange back to do so. Syracuse is currently fifth all-time on the list of most 2,000-yard rushers:
1. Oklahoma - 32
2. Nebraska – 30
3. Ohio State - 27
4. Oklahoma State - 25
5. Syracuse - 22
Hurley had eight 100-yard rushing efforts, while Dungey has posted six. When Dungey ran for 200 yards on 15 carries at Western Michigan, he established a Syracuse quarterback record.
DID YOU KNOW?
Syracuse's victory against Louisville last Friday gave the program an unblemished, 6-0 record in the Dome this season. It is the fourth time the Orange have posted undefeated home campaigns since moving into the Dome in 1980.
GIVE ME 50!
Way back in 1904, Syracuse scored 50 or more points in a game four times. It is a record that stood the test of time until 2018. The Orange opened the current campaign by exceeding 50 points in three of the first four contests. Since that time, Syracuse has surpassed the lofty total two other times for a record five 50-point outings through 10 games.
The Orange have tallied 40 or more points seven times in 2018, another school standard.
Syracuse ranks seventh among Division I FBS programs and second in the ACC in scoring average (44.4).
DID YOU KNOW?
Syracuse has at least one interception in all 10 games this fall. The Orange have 14 picks on the year and rank sixth nationally in the category.
