Polaski's Hat Trick Not Enough in Orange's Setback to RIT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Emma Polaski provided the Orange's offensive firepower with her first career hat trick, but the Syracuse hockey team was undone by RIT's four third-period goals, suffering a 6-4 setback Friday night inside Tennity Ice Pavilion.

Syracuse moves to 4-8-1 overall and 4-3-0 in College Hockey America (CHA) play with the loss.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
RIT held a 1-0 lead after the first period. The Tigers' Kendall Cornine scored on a breakaway four minutes in to give RIT an early advantage.

Three second-period goals by Syracuse righted the ship. Redshirt junior defenseman Lindsay Eastwood opened the Orange's scoring with a power play goal eight minutes into the period.

After Logan Land responded with a goal five minutes later to put RIT back in front, Polaski took over the game. She scored her first of three goals only 10 seconds after Land's goal, and she added her second of the night minutes later, giving Syracuse its first lead of the night at 3-2.

Syracuse came out of the second intermission with a 3-2 lead, but there was more scoring to come. Polaski completed her hat trick five minutes into the third period, extending Syracuse's lead to 4-2.

RIT would not back down, however, scoring four times in the final 10 minutes of regulation, including three goals in four minutes, to secure a come-from-behind 6-4 victory.

OF NOTE
The Orange outshot RIT, 42-19. Junior forward Anonda Hoppner had a team-high seven shots on net, sophomore forward Victoria Klimek had six and Polaski had five.

Polaski is the first Syracuse skater to record a hat trick since Brooke Avery scored three goals against RIT at the CHA Tournament last season (3/1/18). Polaski leads the Orange with eight goals this season and shares the team high in points (11) with senior defenseman Allie Munroe.

Eastwood and Munroe each had two assists in the game. Munroe leads the team with nine assists this season.

Senior goaltender Maddi Wlech started in net and came up with 13 saves. She has started the last six games.

WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange head to Burlington, Vt. for the Windjammer Classic. Syracuse will play two games in the tournament, with the first coming on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. against host Vermont.
