SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange are No. 20 in the latest College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, which were released Tuesday night on ESPN.
Â
Following their 36-3 loss to No. 3 Notre Dame, Syracuse fell eight spots, but remains the second-highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference team behind No. 2 Clemson.
Â
The Orange, who are 8-3Â overall and 5-2 in conference play under third-year head coach Dino Babers, have been in all four editions of the CFP rankings. Syracuse debuted at No. 19 on Oct. 30 before eventually climbing to No. 12 ahead of last week's game against the Fighting Irish.
In addition to their No. 20 CFP ranking, the Orange are No. 19 in both the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll and the latest Amway Coaches poll.
Overall, three ACC teams were included in this week's CFP rankings. In addition to the Orange and Tigers, Coastal Division champion Pittsburgh made its 2018 CFP poll debut, checking in at No. 24.
Syracuse closes the regular season Saturday at Boston College. A victory over the Eagles would give the Orange nine regular-season wins for the first time since 2001.
Alabama (No. 1), Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan (No. 4) made up the top four for the third week in a row. At the end of the season, the four highest-ranked teams advance to the College Football Playoff, which begins on Dec. 29.
Â
The CFP rankings are determined by a committee of 13 individuals with experience as coaches, student-athletes, college administrators and journalists, along with sitting athletics directors. The rankings are announced each Tuesday from Oct. 30 to Nov. 27, with the final rankings released on Sunday, Dec. 2.
