Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse University's 14th-ranked women's basketball team is ready for a trio of games at the Cancun Challenge at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Cancun, Mexico Nov. 22-24. The Orange will first play Kansas State 1:30 p.m Thursday. Fans can follow live stats and stream every game live.
Syracuse moved up four spots in the Associated Press (AP) Poll and three spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 14 and No. 15, respectively, this week. The Orange are 3-1 on the season and ride a two-game win streak into Thursday's matchup with Kansas State.
Kansas State is 3-0 on the season with wins over Omaha, North Texas and UMKC. The Wildcats are led by Peyton Williams, who's averaging a double-double this season with 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Kansas State missed the postseason last year for the first time since head coach Jeff Mittie took the reigns in Manhattan. He's led the Wildcats to two NCAA Tournaments and a pair of WNIT appearances in his five seasons at the helm.
Thursday marks the first meeting between K-State and the Orange in program history. Additionally, it is the first time either head coach - SU's Quentin Hillsman and Kansas State's Mittie - will coach against the opposing team.
Following Thursday's game, the Orange have a quick turnaround, playing Princeton at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The Orange are 2-0 all-time against the Tigers, with both wins coming under Hillsman's leadership.
Princeton enters the Cancun Challenge 1-3 on the season with its lone win coming against Seton Hall at home on Nov. 14. The Tigers begin the Cancun Challenge with an 11 a.m. game against No. 16 DePaul Thursday.
The final game of the week is the premiere event for the Orange. No. 16 DePaul is Syracuse's third top-25 opponent of the season, and the two programs will square off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Blue Demons lead the all-time series 6-3, dating back to the first meeting in 2006. The last time the two met was Nov. 27, 2016 when DePaul edged Syracuse, 108-84. Saturday is be the second time the two will play a neutral-site game. The Blue Demons won the previous neutral-site meeting between the two.
