
Malone Captures Title, Men Take First at NCAA Northeast Regional

Syracuse's Shannon Malone is the 2018 NCAA Northeast Regional individual champion, winning the women's race on a snowy track in Buffalo, N.Y., while the Syracuse men won the team title at the event.
Malone and the 'Cuse men qualified for next week's NCAA Championships with the result.
Malone finished first in the women's 6k with a time of 21:28.7, claiming the top spot and leading Syracuse to a sixth-place team finish Friday morning at Audubon Golf Course. It's Malone's best ever finish at an NCAA Regional, having earned a bronze medal as a redshirt junior and placing 67th as a redshirt sophomore.
Syracuse's Mary Malone finished 21st (22:21.6), Rachel Bonner placed 32nd (22:37.5) and Madeleine Davison rounded out the top-50 with a 49th-place finish (22:55.3). Abigail Spiers, Emma Wilson and Laura Dickinson placed 52nd (22:57.9), 57th (23:03.4) and 61st (23:05.7), respectively.
The men's team, meanwhile, continued its dominance, as Aidan Tooker, Dominic Hockenbury and Joe Dragon took sixth (32:56.4), seventh (32:58.1) and eighth place (33:01.6) in the 10k, leading the Orange to a first-place team finish. It's the ninth time in 10 years that the Syracuse men's cross country team has claimed the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship title.
Simon Smith, Kevin James, Nathan Henderson and Iliass Aouani finished 17th (33:28.1), 41st (33:59.9), 61st (34:27.4) and 101st (35:02.8) on the men's side.
The team will next compete at the NCAA Championship in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday.
