
Dungey Named Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Honorable Mention

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Syracuse senior quarterback Eric Dungey received Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Honorable Mention recognition on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Dungey was one of 30 nominees for the award, which is presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in association with the Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl.

In addition to Dungey, Purdue's David Blough, Virginia Tech's Caleb Farley, Tennessee Tech's Josh Poplar, Ohio Northern's Sam Shook and Washburn University's Austin Tillman were honorable mention selections.

The inaugural Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award winners were Kent State's Antwan Dixon, Dartmouth's Seth Simmer and Carson-Newman's Antonio Wimbush. Dixon and Simmer were selected in a vote of AP College Football Poll voters, while Wimbush was chosen by a vote of the CoSIDA small-college advisory board.

The editors of Touchdown Illustrated, the gameday publication for college football, selected the honorable mention players.

Mayo Clinic will donate will donate $5,000 to the general scholarship funds at Kent State, Dartmouth and Carson-Newman in the name of the winners. Additionally, $2,500 will be donated to each of the six schools in the names of those chosen as honorable mention.

"We understand how challenging it can be for student-athletes to return from injury or illness," said Dr. Michael Stuart, co-director of Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine. "The 30 student-athletes we recognized this year are representative of the motivation, determination and perseverance that student-athletes all across America demonstrate on a daily basis."

The 2018 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, Dungey rebounded from a broken foot in 2017 to lead Syracuse to a 9-3 overall record and a second-place finish in the ACC Atlantic Division this year. In 12 games, Dungey racked up 3,297 total yards (2,565 passing, 732 rushing) and accounted for a school-record 32 touchdowns (17 passing, 15 rushing). His 15 rushing scores are the most for an FBS quarterback this season.

Dungey has one more game to play in a Syracuse uniform. He and the 17th-ranked Orange will square off against No. 15 West Virginia in the Camping World Bowl on Friday, Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.

With 2018 coming to a close, fans looking to get a head start on 2019 can do so now. Season ticket orders and renewals to watch Orange football next year are currently being accepted.

Tickets for next season's six-game home slate start at $100 for Syracuse University Young Alumni (Class of 2015 to Class of 2019 graduates) and $125 for the general public. They may be purchased online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
The deadline to renew current season tickets is March 8, 2019.
