SYRACUSE, N.Y. – As the 2019 season draws closer, Syracuse softball continues to add depth with the addition of infielder Alex Acevedo. Acevedo, who is set to join the team in January, comes to Syracuse following her freshman campaign at Florida Atlantic.
"I'm really excited to welcome Alex to the Syracuse softball family," head coach Shannon Doepking said. "Alex brings a year of experience to our team and will help us add depth with her ability to really play any position on the field. She's a competitor who is looking to make an impact right away."
Acevedo helped the Owls to the regular season Conference USA crown last season, before coming up short, 7-6, against Middle Tennessee State in the tournament title game. Acevedo appeared in 15 games her freshman season, including two starts. She recorded three hits and three runs batted in during her debut season.
An Orange Park, Fla. native, Acevedo concluded her high school career at Oakleaf High School where she helped the Knights to the 2017 8A State Title and was named to the Miracle Sports 8A All-State First Team as a senior.
Acevedo joins an experienced Syracuse team that returns 12 players from a year ago in addition to nine newcomers. Led by first year head coach, Doepking, the Orange are set to kick off their 2019 campaign at the GCU Kickoff Classic Feb. 8-10.
