SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's basketball team (7-2) will play its lone game of the week on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. against Maryland Eastern Shore (2-5) in the Carrier Dome. Wednesday marks the second of a three game home stand for the Orange, which Syracuse started on Sunday with a 98-55 win over Towson.
The Orange are 5-0 all-time against Maryland Eastern Shore most recently defeating the Hawks, 68-45, on Nov. 16, 2017.
'Cuse is averaging 84.3 points per game at home while allowing just 53.3 points per game. Opponents are shooting 33 percent from the field and just 25 percent from the arc while the Orange have been dominant from long range with a .421 3-point field goal percentage in the Carrier Dome.
Sophomore Digna Strautmane had a breakout game against Towson scoring a team-high 19 points against the Tigers. She was one of five Orange women to score in double figures while Tiana Mangakahia and Miranda Drummond each logged double doubles. Mangakahia paces the Syracuse offense with 15.9 points and 6.8 assists per game while Drummond and redshirt freshman Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi are each adding 10.3 points per game.
Djaldi-Tabdi and freshman Emily Engstler are tied for the team lead with 5.6 rebounds per game. Syracuse currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with 387 total rebounds.
The Hawks enter the Dome in search of their first road win of the season. Maryland Eastern Shore has won two of its last three games and holds a 2-5 record entering Wednesday's match-up with the Orange. Ciani Byrom leads the Hawks with 14.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. As a unit, Maryland Eastern Shore averages 67.6 points per game and is shooting .381 from the field.
