SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse heads to the Steel City to take on Pittsburgh at the Peterson Events Center on Monday, Feb. 19. The opening tip is slated for 7 p.m. and can be watched locally on Regional Sports Networks (RSN).
Syracuse (19-7, 7-6 ACC) comes into Monday's game fresh off a win over No. 17/16 Duke at home on Thursday. Tiana Mangakahia's 3-pointer with 57 seconds left clinched the Orange's second top-25 win inside the Carrier Dome this season. 'Cuse turns its attention to Pitt seeking its third-straight win and second-straight Atlantic Coast Conference road win.
Nancy Lieberman Award finalist Mangakahia is having a breakout season with the Orange. Against the Blue Devils, as she tallied 19 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and four steals for her 13th double-double of the season. Mangakahia continues to lead the nation in assists (263) and assists per game (10.1)
Over the last two games the Orange have held opponents to 32.5 percent from behind the arc and has forced 38 turnovers. 'Cuse has outscored opponents 39-14 on the fast break and has scored a combined 50 points off turnovers. Syracuse ranks third in the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.94) and fourth in turnover margin (1.92).
Pittsburgh (10-16, 2-11 ACC) is looking to rebound from an 82-58 loss at Miami on Thursday. The Panthers are currently on a three-game losing streak and have lost their last four home games inside the Peterson Events Center. Junior forward Yacine Diop leads the team in points (15.3) and is second in rebounds (6.5).
As a team, the Panthers average 60.5 points per game and shoot 39.8 percent from the field, while holding opponents to shoot only 37.1 percent, good for fourth in the conference. Pitt also leads the ACC in blocks per game with 6.2, and sits fourth in steals (9.1 per game).
SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse leads the all-time series 40-19, having won the last 13-straight games. In their first meeting earlier this season, the Orange defeated the Panthers 70-52 in the Carrier Dome on Jan. 21.
In the win, 'Cuse had a balanced effort with Tiana Mangakahia and Amaya Finklea-Guity scoring 14 points apiece while Gabrielle Cooper and Digna Strautmane chipped in 12 points each.
