Orange Face No. 9-Seed Virginia Tech in ACC Tournament Thursday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After finishing the regular season on a five-game win streak including a win over No. 17/16 Duke, the Orange are headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., this week as the No. 8 seed. Syracuse (22-7, 10-6 in the league) will face No. 9 Virginia Tech (17-12, 6-10 ACC) at 2 pm inside the Greensboro Coliseum for a second round matchup.
The game will be aired live on the ACC's regional sports networks (RSN) with LaChina Robinson and Jenn Hildreth on the call.
GAME PREVIEW
All-ACC First Team selection Tiana Mangakahia broke the ACC single-season assists record on Thursday in the Orange's regular season finale win over Boston College. She leads 'Cuse with 17.8 points and 9.9 assists per game this season with a league-best 14 double-doubles. Miranda Drummond, Gabrielle Cooper and ACC All-Freshman Team honoree Digna Strautmane are averaging double figures in scoring and helping 'Cuse to 73.8 points per game.
The Orange are shooting 41.0 percent from the field and average 9.8 3-pointers per game. In Syracuse's win over North Carolina, the Orange broke the ACC record for 3-pointers in a game with 20.
The Hokies are led by Taylor Emery who is averaging 18.0 points per game this season. An ACC Second Team honoree, Emery has scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season. She is shooting 49.6 percent from the field and an impressive 40.2 percent from behind the arc. Regan Magarity is second on the team in scoring with 13.7 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday afternoon marks the 12th meeting between the Orange and the Hokies. Syracuse holds a one-game lead, with the teams' overall record standing at 6-5, SU.
The teams met earlier this season at the Carrier Dome on Feb 1, where the Hokies defeated the Orange 74 to 64, breaking 'Cuse's eleven-game home win streak. Mangakahia recorded 13 assists to break the Syracuse single-season assists record, passing Alexis Peterson who previously held the record at 231.
Also of note, freshmen center Amaya Finklea-Guity recorded a career high of 11 rebounds against the Hokies.
ORANGE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
Syracuse is 4-4 in the ACC Tournament since joining the league in the 2013-14 season. Last year, Syracuse went 1-1 with a win of No. 14 North Carolina before losing to No. 3 Duke 68-46.
The Orange reached the ACC Championship for the first time in 2016 as the No. 3 seed where they lost to No. 1 seed Notre Dame 68-57.
