SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Anna Shkudun of the women's tennis team and Matthew Barni of the men's rowing team have been named this week's scholar athletes of the week.
Shkudun is a graduate student pursuing an Advanced Certificate in Intercollegiate Athletics. She is a two-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll and was tabbed to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in four semesters during her time with the Orange.
The Ukraine native has primarily played at third and fourth singles this season, accumulating a 6-6 record in 12 matches played for Syracuse this season. Four of her six wins have been two-set victories, while the other two were three-set battles that resulted in 7-5 third-set wins. In doubles play, she holds a 9-2 record, primarily playing at No. 2 doubles.
Barni is a junior from Willoughby Hills, Ohio, double-majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Biology. He has earned a spot on the ACC Academic Honor twice and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times in his Syracuse career.
The senior split time between the first and second varsity eight boats during the 2017 season. He helped the first varsity eight boat to an eighth place finish at the IRA Championship Regatta while sitting in the fourth seat.
Shkudun and the women's tennis team are back in action on Sunday when they host Louisville for a 1 p.m. match. Barni and the men's rowing team are in the midst of preparation for their season opener on April 7 vs. Wisconsin.
