THE NOTRE DAME SERIES
- The Orange and the Fighting Irish square off for the 14th time in a series dating back to 2001
- Syracuse holds a 9-4 advantage over Notre Dame all-time, having won eight of the first nine matchups between the two sides. 'Cuse snapped a three-game losing streak last season at Arlotta Stadium.
- Syracuse is 2-3 against the Fighting Irish since joining the ACC.
- Nate Solomon had a hat trick in last year's 11-10 win at Notre Dame, with the Orange defense causing a turnover in the final seconds to preserve one of its 11 one-goal wins last season.
CONFERENCE KINGS
- This weekend's match-up with Notre Dame is its third of four ACC regular season contests.Â
- 'Cuse is 2-0 in league play this season and has won seven-straight conference games heading into Saturday's game. The last time the Orange lost was against Notre Dame in the 2016 season.
- Since joining the ACC in 2014, Syracuse is 12-7 in regular season conference play.
'CUSE CLOSING IN ON 900 WINS
- Syracuse enters the Saturday's game with 899 wins, looking to become the second program in NCAA DI lacrosse history to reach 900 wins.
- Johns Hopkins (977), Syracuse (899) and Maryland (815) are the only three programs with 800 or more wins. Navy is 6 from the plateau and Army is 14.
- There are six other programs in the 700 win club, Johns Hopkins (975), Maryland (815), Navy (794), Army (786), Hobart (767) and Cornell (751). All but the Terps appear on the Orange's 2018 schedule.
A WIN AGAINST NOTRE DAME WOULD...
- Be the program's 900th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve SU's record to 54-17 since the start of the 2014 season
- Give John Desko his 241st career coaching win, fifth among active Division I coaches and 25th all-time at the NCAA Division I level.
MELLEN NAMED IL MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICAN
- Sophomore defender Nick Mellen was named to Inside Lacrosse's Midseason All-America Third Team after his stellar play to start the year.
- Going against some of the nation's top scorers in Connor Fields and Justin Guterding already, Mellen is holding his opposition well below their season average.
- Fields (2 goals), Michael Kraus of UVA (2-1) and Guterding (1-2) had all entered their matchups with the Orange as significant offensive contributors, and were held to less than two goals each.
