Orange Overpowered by BC

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Boston College (15-15, 5-3 ACC) scored three runs in the fifth inning to propel its way to a 4-2 victory over Syracuse (16-14, 4-7 ACC) Saturday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader at Skytop Softball Stadium. The Eagles completed the sweep with a 12-2 win, in six innings, over the Orange in game two.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow at noon.
Game 1: Boston College 4, Syracuse 2
Sophomore pitcher Alexa Romero dropped to 11-8. She pitched all seven innings and surrendered four runs (three earned) on three hits with three walks and 12 strikeouts. Senior Sammy Fernandez batted 2-for-4.
Jessica Dreswick earned the win for Boston College. In seven innings, Dreswick allowed two unearned runs on five hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Annie Murphy went 1-for-3 with a 2 RBI double.
Jordan Chimento singled in a run, along with Murphy's RBI double to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead in the fifth. The Orange scored two runs in the bottom half off a throwing error to pull within one. BC added an insurance run in the sixth when a runner on third came home on a wild pitch.
'Cuse loaded the bases in the first with one out, but was unable to capitalize.
Game 2: Boston College 12, Syracuse 2 (6 inn.)
Four different Boston College batters recorded multiple RBIs and the Eagles scored at least run between innings two through six. Emme Martinez led the way, batting 3-for-4 with three RBIs and came up a triple shy of a cycle.
Freshman Neli Casares-Maher finished 2-2 for Syracuse with a double a two RBIs. Freshman Michala Maciolek went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.
Senior AnnaMarie Gatti was credited with the loss. Gatti pitched four innings and surrendered eight runs on seven hits with seven walks and six strikeouts. Freshman Miranda Hearn closed the game, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Allyson Frei went the distance to pick up the win for BC. She conceded two runs on four hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.
The Eagles took the lead in the second inning off an RBI double from Martinez. Casares-Maher singled in a run in the bottom half to tie things back up.
BC added a run in the third and four more in fourth to extend its lead to 5-1. Casares-Maher doubled off the wall in left center to bring home the other 'Cuse run.
