Softball Announces Three More Members of 2018 Class

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three more student-athletes are joining the Syracuse softball program in the fall of 2018, announced Monday by head coach Mike Bosch. With these three additions, the 2018 incoming class now stands at seven.
Alexis Abboud
La Canada, Calif.
La Canada High School
A senior captain and four year member of the La Canada High School softball program, Abboud is a utility under head coach Chuck Gunter. La Canada finished 18-5 overall and 13-0 in league play in 2017 and is 12-3-1 and 6-0 so far this season.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity to play softball at such a great school and cannot think of a better place to continue my softball career," said Abboud.
Abboud is a three-time All-Rio Hondo League selection, including a first team honoree in 2016. She has been a member of Firecrackers Softball since 2013. In her first three seasons at La Canada, Abboud produced a .375 batting average with a .493 on-base percentage.
"Alexis brings another left handed hitter to our lineup and we have seen how valuable they can be this year," said Bosch. "She brings a good deal of high level playing experience with her and will make an immediate impact on our program."
The daughter of Julia Crabtree, Abboud has one brother and two sisters. Her sister, Rachel, is currently a freshman utility at Duke.
Taylor Lane
Tinton Falls, N.J.
Red Bank Catholic
Lane is a four-year member of the Red Bank Catholic softball program and is a captain in 2018. She has spent time at shortstop and in centerfield under head coach Tony Flego. Lane has been a member of the New Jersey Intensity and the Monmouth Surf club teams. She also played field hockey at Red Bank for three seasons and was on the basketball during her freshman year.
"It is a dream come true, getting to play NCAA Division I softball in the ACC, at a school I absolutely love," said Lane. "I'm very excited and am looking forward to becoming a part of the Syracuse softball family."
In 2017, Lane was selected to the Second Team All-State (nonpublic), First Team All-Division, First Team All-County, First Team All-Shore Conference and was named Red Banks's Offensive Player of the Year. She was named to the First Team All-State (nonpublic), the Second Team All-Shore Conference and was named the high school's Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.
"Taylor is a dynamic athlete with a great deal of speed and a high ceiling of ability," said Bosch. "I can see her being one of those players that develops greatly in her years at Syracuse."
The daughter of Michael and Michele Lane, Taylor Lane is a member of the Catholic Athletes for Christ, Casey's for a Cure, Art and Education clubs.
Jessica Skladal
League City, Texas
Clear Creek High School
Skladal is a four-year member of the Clear Creek High School softball program and plays outfield under head coach Andrea Cash. Skladal has led the Wildcats to an 18-6-1 record thus far during her senior season. She is also a member of the Illusions Gold club team, which was formerly named Impact Gold Elite from 2014-17. Skladal competed in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 during her sophomore season on the track and field team.
"I'm extremely blessed to receive the opportunity to play softball at Syracuse University," said Skladal.
Skladal was named to the First Team All-District in 2017, Second Team All-District in 2016 and All-District Honorable Mention in 2015. She has batted .345 over the course of her career with a .416 on-base percentage and 90 runs. Skladal has also received Clear Creek's Golden Glove award.
"Jessica adds speed and athleticism to our lineup," said Bosch. "Playing in Texas, she has been a part of many big games and has experience to help our program get better."
The daughter of Joseph and Leah Skladal, Jessica Skladal has an older sister and a younger brother. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and has received the Superintendent Scholar Award from Clear Creek High School four times.
