GREENSBORO, N.C. – After clinching the match for Syracuse in its historic win over No. 3 Georgia Tech, junior Gabriela Knutson has been tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week. The Czech Republic native posted a perfect 4-0 record in singles and doubles play combined, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents.
Knutson, alongside doubles partner Miranda Ramirez, defeated the No. 1 doubles duo in the nation, 6-2, in Georgia Tech's Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones. As the match-clinching point for the Orange against the Yellow Jackets, Knutson helped 'Cuse to its biggest win in program history on Sunday. The junior came back from a 1-0 deficit to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-4 and defeat No. 22 Paige Hourigan for the match point.
Her two wins on Friday at Pittsburgh in singles and doubles action puts Knutson at a 22-5 overall record for the spring. She is a perfect 9-0 in ACC singles matches this season and holds a team-leading 14-1 mark in overall singles play.
Knutson and the rest of the Orange gear up for three consecutive matches against ranked opponents beginning with No. 19 Florida State on Friday. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. and the game will be aired on ACC Network Extra.
