GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a breakout season, junior Gabriela Knutson has been tabbed to the All-ACC First Team, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Thursday.
Knutson is the first Orange to earn First Team honors and extends Syracuse's streak to five straight years with an Orange on the All-ACC Team. She joins teammates Anna Shkudun and Miranda Ramirez, who each garnered Second Team accolades in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
The Czech Republic native finished the regular season with a 17-3 mark in singles play, her only three losses coming against a trio of top-10 opponents. Knutson defeated five, top-50 singles players including No. 8 Alle Sanford from top-ranked North Carolina.
Her success at first singles in the highly competitive ACC rocketed Knutson to No. 4 nationally, according to the ITA/Oracle Singles Rankings. She became the highest-ranked player in Syracuse program history when she checked in at No. 4 on April 10.
Knutson, alongside doubles partner Ramirez, posted a 14-4 mark in doubles action, including seven straight victories in conference play during the regular season. In a historic team victory over No. 3 Georgia Tech, Knutson and Ramirez knocked off the No. 1 pair of Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones.
With 136 career wins (singles and doubles play) under her belt, Knutson sits tied for eighth on the Syracuse all-time career wins list. She is just 14 wins away from joining the elite 150-club, a group of five Syracuse athletes who have recorded over 150 career wins.
Knutson and the rest of the Orange are headed to Oxford, Mississippi to kick off the NCAA Tournament against Wichita State on Friday, May 11. First serve is slated for noon.
