Colin Bennie, Paige Stoner and Madeleine Davison were named CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honorees for their success in the classroom, in addition to on the track.
Bennie, who has twice been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, the all-district honors sets up his opportunity for a third-straight nod to the academic All-America team, while Stoner and Davison are first-time honorees.
The 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Track/Cross Country Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams announced in June.
The award continues to highlight a historic season for Stoner, who became the highest women's finisher in program history at the NCAA Cross Country Championship after winning the first women's ACC individual title and finishing as the runner-up at the NCAA Northeast Regional. Stoner wrapped up cross country earning USTFCCCA All-America, All-Region and ACC Performer of the Year honors. She was also named the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Her success continued into indoor track, where she finished her indoor slate with USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors in the 5k, and earned a pair of bronze medals at the ACC Championships. In outdoor, she's qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the second year in a row, entering next week's meet in Eugene, Oregon with the third-best time in the nation this year. She claimed the ACC title in the event, on her way to breaking her own school record from earlier this season. She broke the record again at NCAA East Prelims, while posting an easy win in her heat.
Majoring in selected studies in education and psychology in the School of Education, Stoner has maintained nearly a 3.8 GPA while re-writing the Orange's record books.
Bennie is one of the most decorated runners in Syracuse history, entering next week's NCAA Championships as a four-time national qualifier. A graduate student in Public Administration after earning an undergraduate degree in political science with a minor in economics, Bennie is a two-time USTFCCCA All-American in cross country and is seeking his fifth All-America nod on the track, when he competes in the 10000-meters on Wednesday.
Bennie's third first team all-district selection puts him in the running to become the first three-time Academic All-American in Syracuse history. At the 'Cuse Awards, Bennie was presented with the Doris Soladay Award, which is the highest honor a Syracuse student-athlete can receive.
Davison has maintained a perfect GPA in her time at Syracuse in News & Online Journalism and Sociology. At the 'Cuse Awards, she won the 'Cuse Scholar award, the top academic honor for a Syracuse student-athlete. She finished 11th at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10000-meters.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin on Wednesday, with the action over the four days to be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
