One of the longest rivalries in college lacrosse will kick off Syracuse's quest for a 12th NCAA Championship on Sunday, May 13 7:15 p.m., when the team hosts upstate rival Cornell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The trip is the 38th NCAA Tournament bid for the Syracuse.
Â
The Orange are the No. 8 seed for the third time, boasting a 4-2 record in those prior two times, including a trip to the 1999 NCAA title game. 'Cuse also was the No. 8 seed in 2016. This is also the sixth-straight time Syracuse has hosted a first round matchup. The Orange are 29-3 all-time in NCAA Tournament games in the Carrier Dome.
'Cuse owns the third-most appearances (38) and second-most wins (68) of any program in NCAA history.
Head Coach John Desko has led the Orange to the NCAA Tournament in 19 of his 20 seasons at the helm of the program, boasting the third-best winning percentage in NCAA Tournament history and is tied with Orange legend Roy Simmons Jr. for the third-most NCAA Tournament wins of any head coach.
Syracuse has played Cornell three times in the NCAA Tournament, most recently in the 2009 NCAA Championship game, where the Orange came away victorious for the team's 11th national title in one of the wildest finishes in tournament history. Syracuse also defeated the Big Red for the 1988 title and lost in the NCAA Semifinals in 1987 to Cornell. The Orange are 29-3 all-time in the Carrier Dome, including a 1-0 mark against the Big Red there.
Overall, Syracuse is 65-37-1 all-time against Cornell, including this year's regular season loss.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for youth (12 and under) and students with valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Carrier Dome Box Office (GATE B), at Cuse.com/Tickets or by calling 888-DOME-TIX.
