SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse alumnae Kayla Alexander and Brittney Sykes are representing the Orange well in the WNBA this season.
Alexander, Syracuse's all-time leading scorer, is in her sixth season in the WNBA and first with the Indiana Fever. She spent the previous five years with the San Antonio Stars, now the Las Vegas Aces.
Alexander has appeared in 23 of the Fever's 25 games this season. She is averaging 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds In 9.0 minutes per game. She had a season-high 10 points in a loss to the Phoenix Mercury. She has tallied a season-high four rebounds on five occasions, most recently on July 20 in a win over the Los Angeles Sparks. The Fever is currently 3-23 this season and 1-11 in the Eastern Conference.
Sykes, the highest-drafted player in program history (1st round, 7th overall) is in her second season with the Atlanta Dream. She was a WNBA All-Rookie team selection in 2017.
Sykes has appeared in 20 games this season, missing five games due to injury (foot) in mid-June. In her first game back she scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished four assists in a 75-70 win over the Connecticut Sun. Sykes has scored double figures in 11 games this season including a season-best 20-point performance in a win over former Syracuse teammate Alexander and the Fever on July 1.
Atlanta is currently at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 16-9 record, the second-best record in the WNBA, behind the Seattle Storm (18-7).
