SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Incoming Syracuse freshman Laurence Joss earned a 14th-place finish in the men's double sculls at the Under-19 Junior World Rowing Championships while representing Great Britain. On Friday, the pair placed fifth in the quarterfinal, missing a spot in the A/B semifinals and headed to Saturday's C/D semifinal.
In the Saturday morning C/D semifinal Great Britain maintained a spot in second place most of the race but overhauled the Russian leaders in the final strokes to win by 0.13 seconds. Following the semifinal win, Joss and his teammate rowed through Serbia and Slovenia to take second place, 14th overall, while Russia won the C final.
Joss is the fourth Orange to compete internationally this summer. In July, rising senior Nick Tavares (Canada) and incoming freshmen Jacopo Bertone (Italy) and Nicolay Yngsdal (Norway) competed at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships for their native countries.
