SYRACUSE, N.Y. –
Syracuse took to the pitch for the first time in 2018 in a preseason scrimmage against Canisius on Sunday, Aug. 12. Three different players scored for the Orange as they posted a 3-1 victory at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Sophomore Sondre Norheim
gave Syracuse the lead for good in the 16th minute when he scored off a corner kick by senior Hugo Delhommelle
. The Orange scored twice in the second of the three 30-minute periods to extend their advantage. Junior Severin Soerlie
connected with sophomore Petter Stangeland
, who lobbed the ball over the Canisius goalkeeper from the top of the box in the 56th minute. Just over two minutes later, it was Soerlie who found the back of the net after taking a pass from freshman Hilli Goldhar
. The Golden Griffs tallied their only goal in the 72nd minute for the 3-1 final.
Senior goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert
played the first period, while freshman Sam Gomez
was in goal for period two. Redshirt sophomore Jake Leahy
mined the goal for the final period.
Syracuse recorded 12 shots and eight corner kicks, while Canisius had four shots and four corner kicks.
The Orange play their second of three preseason scrimmages on Wednesday, Aug. 15 against Villanova at the SU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
