TYLER, Texas – The sixth annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List was announced today by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and Syracuse redshirt senior offensive tackle Koda Martin was one of five offensive linemen to make the 47-player list of nominees.
Â
The award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define legendary Texas running back Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas high school and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
Â
Martin joined Georgia Tech's Parker Braun, Maryland's Brendon Moore, Northwestern's Rashawn Slater and Ole Miss's Greg Little as offensive linemen who earned a place on this year's watch list.
Â
A native of Manvel, Texas, Martin joined the Orange as a graduate transfer from Texas A&M in May. In three seasons for the Aggies, Martin played in 34 games with 16 starts, including 15 starts at offensive tackle. Last season, Martin made 12 starts at left tackle for Texas A&M last and helped clear the way for an offense that averaged 406.8 yards a game.
Â
The 16 semifinalists for the award will be revealed in November. Following the announcement of the semifinalists, a panel of broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans, and previous winners will select up to five finalists, whose names will be released in December. This winner of this year's award will be announced during the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet on Jan. 9, 2019 in Tyler, Texas.
