SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After two matches at home, the Orange are back on the road.
The Syracuse women's soccer team starts its three-match road trip at Boston College Thursday, Sept. 20. The match, set to kick off at 7 p.m., will air on ACC Network Extra via WatchESPN.
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange started the Atlantic Coast Conference portion of their 2018 schedule last Sunday afternoon inside SU Soccer Stadium, coming up short against No. 13 Duke, 4-0.
Duke's match-winning goal came in the 34th minute, when Taylor Racioppi received a pass from Marykate McGuire, broke through against the Orange defense and scored to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Devils tacked on three more goals for good measure, scoring again in the 40th minute to enter the half with a 2-0 advantage. Goals from Lily Nabet and Kayla McCoy in the 56th and 72nd minutes, respectively, helped extend Duke's lead to four.
A LOOK AROUND THE CONFERENCE
The ACC has five women's soccer teams among the United Soccer Coaches poll – including three teams ranked among the top 7. Virginia is No. 4, followed by No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Florida State, No. 12 Duke and No. 16 NC State. Boston College is ranked No. 23 in the Soccer America Top 25, giving the ACC a total of six ranked teams this week.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College enters the match with a perfect 8-0-0 overall record. Thursday night's contest marks its first ACC match of the season.
The Orange are 4-8-2 all-time against the Eagles and lost 2-1 in their previous meeting, which came back in 2016.
HEAR IT FROM COACH WHEDDON
"We're playing on turf, and it'll be a fast-paced match. They're a team that's scored a lot of goals off of set pieces, so that'll have to be a focus for us. They have a number of impact players, especially out wide, on the flanks and a very good central midfielder. Put that together with their stout defense, it makes them a quite a formidable team. Their record obviously shows where they are, and it'll be a big test for us. Hopefully, we can rise to the occasion."
"We have to treat each game as its own entity. This is a business trip. We're in there the day before, we play the game and then get out. It's very much a business-like approach. We're going on the road to BC for a reason, and we're looking to come away with three points. We'll address our next opponent after that. Everything is centered around the game tomorrow."
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange continue their road trip and conference play against Louisville Sunday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Syracuse is 0-4-1 all-time against Louisville. The Orange lost, 1-0, in their last meeting against the Cardinals in 2015.
