NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Stephanie deLaforcade and redshirt freshman defender/midfielder Laurel Ness led the Syracuse women's soccer team's offensive charge with two shots each, but Boston College scored twice in the first half and went on to win 3-0 Thursday night.
The Orange move to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play with the setback.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Boston College took the lead in the 12th minute when Kayla Duran scored her first goal of the season, securing a rebound off of a blocked shot before scoring. Kayla Jennings tacked on the Eagles' second goal of the half five minutes later. Her second goal of the season came via a header off of a corner.
The third and final goal from Boston College came in the 76th minute.
OF NOTE
The Orange had five total shots, with deLaforcade and Ness sharing a team-high two shots. Both of Ness' shots were on goal.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Jordan Harris started in goal and recorded five saves.
HEAR IT FROM COACH WHEDDON
"We felt that we had the right gameplan. We knew that they were good at set pieces. It's unfortunate because this was a game that – apart from the set pieces – was a fairly even contest. The shots that they had were often from distance or high angles, and I thought that we had some really good moments of ball possession. It comes down to the little details, and in the ACC, you get punished if you don't take care of those little details."
"I thought our women worked exceptionally hard. They fought, and I'm really proud of their effort and fight tonight. We've got to make sure we bring that in every match."
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange continue their road trip and conference play against Louisville Sunday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Syracuse is 0-4-1 all-time against Louisville. The Orange lost, 1-0, in their last meeting against the Cardinals in 2015.
