SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The second match of the road trip takes the Syracuse women's soccer team to Kentucky. The Orange (3-7 overall) seek their first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season when they play at Louisville (8-1 overall, 2-0 ACC) Sunday afternoon.
The match kicks off at 1 p.m. and airs on ACC Network Extra via WatchESPN.
LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore midfielder Stephanie deLaforcade and redshirt freshman defender/midfielder Laurel Ness led the Orange's offensive charge with two shots each, but Boston College scored twice in the first half and went on to win 3-0 Thursday night.
Boston College took the lead in the 12th minute when Kayla Duran scored her first goal of the season, securing a rebound off of a blocked shot before scoring. Kayla Jennings tacked on the Eagles' second goal of the half five minutes later. Her second goal of the season came via a header off of a corner.
The third and final goal from Boston College came in the 76th minute.
A LOOK AROUND THE CONFERENCE
The ACC has five women's soccer teams among the United Soccer Coaches poll – including three teams ranked among the top 7. Virginia is No. 4, followed by No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Florida State, No. 12 Duke and No. 16 NC State. Boston College is ranked No. 23 in the Soccer America Top 25, giving the ACC a total of six ranked teams this week.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Louisville enters Sunday's match with an 8-1-0 overall record. The Cardinals are 2-0-0 in conference play, picking up wins against Pittsburgh and, most recently, Notre Dame.
Syracuse is 0-4-1 all-time against Louisville. The Orange lost, 1-0, in their last meeting against the Cardinals in 2015.
HEAR IT FROM COACH WHEDDON
"Against a team like Louisville, we've got to take advantage of our opportunities in front of goal. We'll get fewer opportunities, but we need to make sure we take advantage of the opportunities we do have. We need to test the goalkeeper a little more than we've tested goalkeepers recently."
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange wrap up the three-match road trip Saturday at Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.
Syracuse won last season's match-up by the score of 1-0 and own a 6-3-1 record all-time against the Hurricanes, who are former BIG EAST Conference rivals.
