Dungey Up for 2018 Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Syracuse senior quarterback Eric Dungey is one of 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award in college football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An accounting major in Syracuse's Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Dungey is a two-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. He was voted to the ACC All-Academic Football Team in 2016, and he is a three-time ACC Honor Roll selection (min. 3.0 cumulative GPA for the academic year).

Dungey's community service work includes preparing and delivering Easter baskets to patients at Syracuse's Golisano Children's Hospital through Maureen's Hope Foundation this past April. In addition, he's a member of the Syracuse University chapter of Uplifting Athletes leadership team. In the four years Dungey has been involved with Uplifting Athletes, the chapter has raised more than $50,000 for rare-disease research and patient-focused programs.
On the field, Dungey is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the country. He is tied for third among active FBS signal-callers in career yards of total offense per game (294.3), and he is one of two current quarterbacks with more than 6,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards. Dungey owns outright or shares 14 school records, including the Syracuse career standards for most passing yards per game (241.2) and most quarterback rushing touchdowns (24).

In 30 career games, Dungey has completed 618-of-999 (.619) passes for 7,235 yards and 49 touchdowns. He's also rushed 410 times for 1,593 yards (3.9 avg.) and 24 scores. This season, Dungey is 58-for-91 (.637) passing for 763 yards with nine touchdowns to one interception. He is also Syracuse's top rusher with 51 carries for 354 yards (6.9) and four TDs. Dungey is currently 11th nationally and first in the ACC with 78 points responsible for.

A 2016 team captain, Dungey is a past member of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and he has represented the program twice at ACC Football Kickoff, the Atlantic Coast Conference's annual two-day media event.

The list of Senior CLASS Award candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season. Those 10 names will be placed on the ballot for nationwide voting by coaches, media and fans who will select one candidate who exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of classroom, character, community and competition. The winner will be announced during bowl season in early January.

CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
