SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Tracy Stankavage has been hired as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Syracuse University. The veteran personal trainer and Strongwoman champion will primarily oversee women's lacrosse and women's rowing.
"It's great to be back home," Stankavage said. "I'm excited to work with (assistant athletics director/Olympic sports strength and conditioning) Corey Parker again. I'm excited to work with the student-athletes and help them reach their full potential."
Stankavage, a graduate of Chittenango High School, joins the Orange staff after a nearly two-year stint as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She oversaw the soccer, basketball, and cross country teams, among other sports.
"We're excited to have Tracy working with our team," said head women's lacrosse coach Gary Gait. "It's great to have someone committed to our team and helping our players be the best they can be."
Prior to joining the intercollegiate athletic ranks, Stankavage spent many years serving as a personal trainer in the private sector. She started her career in strength and condition in 2008 when she was hired as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Strength in Motion. In November 2011, she transitioned to a strength coach role with Double Diamond Athletic Club, but moved back to Strength in Motion in September 2012.
"We are excited to have Tracy Stankavage working with the women's rowing team," said head coach Luke McGee. "She brings winning experience as a strength coach and a standout collegiate athlete and I can already tell that she will be an integral piece of our staff as we look to build the power necessary to win championships."
Stankavage has had an extended athletic career outside of coaching. She currently ranks No. 13 in the world in the Strongwoman Lightweight division and is a six-time top 15 World Strongwoman championship athlete. Stankavage served as the New York State co-chair for the Strongman Corporation from September 2015 to July 2018. In 2012, she was the national champion Strongwoman in the lightweight division.
In college, Stankavage earned All-America honors and the Liberty League Women's Soccer Conference Player of the Year award in 2007. In 2008, she joined the Adirondack Lynx, a semi-pro women's soccer team.
Stankavage earned her bachelor's degree in physics from William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. in 2008. In addition, she is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
