
No. 11 Orange Clash with Top-Ranked Tar Heels Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 11th-ranked Syracuse field hockey team heads south to Chapel Hill, N.C., for an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup with top-ranked North Carolina (9-0) on Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra with Dean Linke and Kyle Straub on the call.
Syracuse and North Carolina have faced each other 15 times since first meeting in 1991. UNC holds an 8-6 advantage over the Orange and has won the each of the last two meetings, 3-2, in overtime. They have played all but twice during head coach Ange Bradley's tenure giving Bradley a 6-7 all-time record against the Tar Heels.
The Orange enter Saturday's match on a three-game win streak after a pair of wins last weekend. Chiara Gutsche leads the team with six goals while senior back Roos Weers has five. Freshman Tess Queen is the team leader in assists with five while sophomore goalkeeper Borg van der Velde has a 5-3 record in goal this season.
North Carolina, the nation's top-ranked team, has a 9-0 record and is fresh off back-to-back ACC wins over Virginia, 3-0, and Duke, 2-0. Erin Matson leads the Tar Heels with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points this season. Ashley Hoffman and Catherine Hayden each have seven goals apiece while Yentl Leemans is second on the team with six assists.
