SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After opening the second half of the regular season against a non-conference opponent, Syracuse women's hockey jumps back into league play Friday night.
The Orange travel east to Rochester, N.Y., to face College Hockey America foe RIT this Friday, Jan. 11. The puck drops at 6 p.m. inside Gene Polisseni Center.
ABOUT THE SERIES
RIT nabbed the first win of the series between the two teams earlier this year. The Tigers overcame Syracuse sophomore forward Emma Polaski's hat trick and a two-goal, third-period deficit in a 6-4 victory over the Orange on Nov. 16 inside Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Despite the loss, Syracuse still holds the all-time series lead. The Orange are 19-8-2 all-time against the Tigers, including a 6-5-1 road record.Â
RIT and Syracuse will play twice more this season after Friday night's contest. The two teams meet again for a home-and-home series on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16, with the first contest taking place in Rochester.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers enter Friday's contest on a two-game win streak after back-to-back over Brown to begin 2019. RIT swept Brown, 2-1 and 2-0, one weekend ago.Â
Kendall Cornine leads the squad in goals (8) and points (10), while Brittany Gout owns the team's high mark in assists with 10. Terra Lanteigne has started all 21 games in net for RIT, posting a 2.13 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
Syracuse kicked off 2019 with a 2-1 loss at RPI on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Junior forward Anonda Hoppner scored her second goal in as many games in the third period, but goals by the Engineers in the first and second period were enough to hold off the Orange.
The loss extended Syracuse's current losing streak to nine games. The Orange's last regular-season win came against Penn State on Nov. 4, 2018.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The Orange return home to Tennity Ice Pavilion for the first time in 2019 next weekend. Syracuse hosts Robert Morris for two games - 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 and 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.
