Syracuse, N.Y. – After an 11-2 non-conference slate, the 14th-ranked Syracuse women's basketball team will begin the Atlantic Coast Conference portion of the season on Thursday when the Orange face Clemson (9-4) at 7 p.m. inside Littlejohn Coliseum. 'Cuse is 7-0 all-time against the Tigers including a 2-0 mark on the road.
Syracuse has had 12 days of rest since its last outing, a 57-52 win over UCF at the St. Pete Shootout in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Dec. 22. The Orange finished non-conference play with 5-straight wins including a trio of games in which Syracuse tallied 90 or more points.
Tiana Mangakahia leads the squad with 15.4 points, 7.8 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game this season. She leads the conference in assists and is ranked third in the nation with 101. Miranda Drummond and Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi add 11.3 and 10.7 points per game, respectively, to Syracuse's lethal lineup. The Orange are averaging 80.6 points per game and outscoring opponents on average of 19.5 points per game.
Clemson rides a two-game win streak into Thursday night's ACC opener. The Tigers have won seven of their last eight games and average 72.2 points per game this season. Clemson is 0-2 against nationally ranked opponents this season losing by 12 to both No. 10/11 South Carolina and No. 11/11 Tennessee in November.
Kobi Thornton leads the team with 16.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while both Simone Westbrook and Danielle Edwards both average double figures with 14.8 and 14.0 points per game, respectively. First-year head coach Amanda Butler has her squad outscoring opponents by 7.5 points per game and shooting 43 percent from the field through its first 13 games.
