
Orange Face No. 6 Cornell in Final Non-Conference Contest of Season

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange are set to finish the non-conference portion of their 2018-19 season schedule against one of the top teams in the country.
Only a few days after hosting Penn State for a two-game series, the Syracuse women's hockey team is back in action. The Orange face a quick turnaround when they play No. 6 Cornell (13-2-5, 11-2-1 ECAC) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 inside Tennity Ice Pavilion.Â
ABOUT THE SERIES
This is the second meeting this year between Syracuse and Cornell. The Orange lost 4-1 to then-No. 7 Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. earlier this season.
Cornell leads the series with an all-time record of 11-1-0. The Orange's first and only win came in the first meeting between the two teams in 2010.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell enters Tuesday's matchup with an overall record of 13-2-5, including a 2-0-4 mark in non-conference play. The Big Red are 6-1-5 on the road this season.
The Big Red are averaging 3.15 goals per game, which ranks 11th in the nation. Cornell is holding its opponents to 1.80 goals per game this season, which ranks 5th.
Forward Maddie Mills leads the team with 24 points (13g, 11a) on the season. Goaltender Marlène Boissonnault, meanwhile, owns a record of 11-2-4 and has recorded four shutouts this season. Boissonnault has posted a goals against average of 1.74 this year.
WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ORANGE
The Orange picked up three points in last weekend's two-game series against Penn State. Syracuse won, 2-1, Friday night before battling to a 1-1 tie Saturday.
Freshman defenseman Shelby Calof delivered a two-point performance in the win Friday, recording the first two assists of her career. She earned College Hockey America Rookie of the Week honors for her effort.
Senior goaltender Maddi Welch stopped 56 shots over the two contests, making 33 saves in the 2-1 win.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
Syracuse is off this weekend before hitting the road for its next three games, all of which are against College Hockey Ameria opponents. The Orange play at Mercyhurst on Feb. 8-9 and then travel to RIT on Feb. 15.Â
The Orange's final homestand of the season starts against RIT on Feb. 16 and finishes one weekend later against Lindenwood. Syracuse ends the regular season at Robert Morris on March 1-2.
