Blacksburg, Va. – Syracuse University's women's basketball team (12-2, 1-0 ACC) look to extend a six-game win streak and improve to 2-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play on Sunday when the Orange face RV/No.25 Virginia Tech (13-1, 0-1 ACC) at Cassell Coliseum at 2 p.m. Fans can watch live on ACC Network Extra with Jon Laaser and Crystal Hubbard on the call.
The Orange picked up an 84-75 win at Clemson (9-5, 0-1 ACC) on Thursday night to open ACC action with a win for the first time in three years. Miranda Drummond had a team-high 23 points while Gabrielle Cooper added 22 points shooting 7-of-12 from three-point range.
Tiana Mangakahia paces Syracuse with 15.2 points and 7.8 assists per game. She leads the conference in total assists with 109. Drummond averages 12.1 points per game while Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi adds 9.9 per game. Freshman Emily Engstler leads the 14th-ranked Orange with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Virginia Tech looks to bounce back from a 68-61 road loss at Miami to start conference play Thursday night. The loss snapped a 13-game win streak and gave Virginia Tech just its second loss in its last 20 games. The Hokies have four players averaging double figures, led by Taylor Emery's 17.9 points per game.
The Orange and Hokies are tied 6-6 all-time. Last season, Virginia Tech handed Syracuse its first loss at home on February 1 and then came from behind to eliminate 'Cuse in the ACC Tournament sending the Orange home early from Greensboro. Virginia Tech reached the WNIT Final while Syracuse reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth-straight year.
