SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse women's soccer (3-8-2, 1-4-1 ACC) travels to Clemson, S.C. to take on 17th-ranked Clemson (8-4-1, 2-4 ACC) this Saturday at Riggs Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game can be seen live via ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
The Orange hosted Miami on Sunday, Oct. 13 at SU Soccer Stadium. Sophomore Meghan Root scored her third goal of the week in the 10th minute, 43 seconds after Miami's Tia Dupont opened scoring. Syracuse fought hard, but an 82nd minute goal gave the Hurricanes the win.
FIRST ACC WIN
Syracuse's 2-1 overtime victory over Wake Forest on Oct. 10 was the Orange's first conference win since they won, 1-0, over Miami on Oct. 11, 2017. Root scored in the 83rd to tie the game and send it to overtime. Root then settled a rebounded shot in the 98th minute and put it left post for the victory. Syracuse's win was also first-year head coach Nicky Adams' first ACC victory.
ORANGE RANKINGS
- The Orange have stopped 66 (5.08/game) shots on the year and lead the ACC in saves by five. Syracuse's 10 saves against Auburn on Sept. 5 are the second-most of ACC team this year.
- Junior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx leads the ACC and ranks 52nd in the nation in total saves this season with 65. She's also first in the conference in saves per game (5.00) and fifth in goalie minutes (1218:27).
- Senior Taylor Bennett is tied for the best PK percentage in the nation after netting both of her opportunities this year.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Tigers are coming off of a 4-1 road loss to Duke on Sunday, Oct. 13. Clemson is 6-1-1 in their home stadium this season but enter the weekend riding a three-game losing streak.
Offensively, the Tigers are led by junior Mariana Speckmaier (6 G) and freshman Maliah Morris (4 G, 2 A). In net, Hannah McLaughlin (3-0-0) and Sandy MacIver (5-3-1) have split time. MacIver has appeared in nine games and leads the pair with 25 saves, while Carmichael has 12 saves in her three games.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Orange head to Raleigh, N.C. on Thursday, Oct. 24 to take on NC State at 7 p.m. The game can be seen live on ACC Network Extra.
