CLEMSON, S.C. - Redshirt sophomore Stephanie deLaforcade recorded the second goal of her career Saturday night in Syracuse's 4-1 loss to No. 17 Clemson (9-4-1, 3-4 ACC) in Clemson, S.C. The Orange (3-9-2, 1-5-1 ACC) now turn their heads to Thursday's road match against NC State.
How it happened
Scoring chances were limited at the start of the game, with both teams combining for just seven shots in the first half hour of play. The Tigers opened scoring in the 32nd minute thanks to Renee Guion going upper 90 past junior Orange goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx. Clemson added their second goal eight minutes later when Abby Hanks hooked a low cross toward the right post from the middle of the 18-yard box. Syracuse entered the locker room at halftime outshot 11-2, with Proulx recording five saves through the first 45 minutes.
The Tigers added their third goal of the night 15 minutes into the half when Kimber Haley ran down a rolling ball and flicked it over Proulx. Clemson would find the back of the net one last time when Patrice DiPasquale headed in a free kick from two feet in front of the center of the goal mouth, making it 4-0 Tigers.
The Orange's lone goal came in the final two minutes of the game. Freshman Teri Jackson played in a cross from the right corner flag that bounced off the end line and landed in front of the wide-open net. A toe poke from deLaforcade was then all that was needed to snap the shutout and get Syracuse on the board.
