Orange Shut Out Morrisville
10/22/2019 7:09:00 PM | Men's Soccer
"We got out of this what we were looking for," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre about the game that was added to the schedule last week. "It gets difficult in the end, making sure we respect our opponent. I thought it was a good exercise and hopefully the same for Morrisville as well. They worked hard."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orange (6-4-4) dominated from the opening whistle and took the lead for good on freshman Luther Archimede's first career goal in the fourth minute on an assist from sophomore Hilli Goldhar. Raposo scored on an assist from senior Severin Soerlie in the 25th minute to put Syracuse up 2-0.
The score stayed that way until the 32nd minute when Ferrin converted a penalty kick. That goal was the first of three in less than eight minutes that gave Syracuse a 5-0 lead at halftime. The scoring run featured a goal and an assist by Ferrin and the first career assist for Nikolaus Steiner.
The second half featured more Orange offense. Ferrin and Raposo had two goals each after intermission, while Soerlie had a goal and an assist. The final tally of the game came on an own goal in the 86th minute for the 11-0 final.
OF NOTE
Ferrin and Raposo each finished with eight points. That total puts the pair in a tie for fifth place on Syracuse's single-game record list with Gary Anderson (1978). It was the first career hat trick for Ferrin and second of the year for Raposo. The eight points are a career high for both players.
Soerlie posted his first career multiple-goal game and finished with a career-high six points. Archimede also finished with a pair of goals.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jake Leahy and the Syracuse defense allowed just one shot by Morrisville (2-11-2) as they posted the 'Cuse's fourth shutout of the season. Mustangs' goalkeeper Tyler Card recorded 11 saves in the loss.
