SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Syracuse women's soccer (2-7-2, 0-3-1 ACC) was shutout, 3-0, by Notre Dame (8-4-0, 2-2-0 ACC) tonight in the Orange's fourth conference matchup of the season. Playing in South Bend, Ind., the Orange came out in strong defensive form but was never able to settle into an offensive rhythm. Syracuse returns to the pitch next Thursday to host Wake Forest at SU Soccer Stadium. Fans are asked to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

How it happened
Notre Dame opened scoring in the first five minutes off a cheeky throw-in play. Sammi Fisher had her back to the goal with the ball along the goalline before she flicked it back over her head and in front of the goal mouth. Eva Hurm ran it down and slotted it to the left of junior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx with her head to put the Fighting Irish on the board.
Â
With just under 25 minutes to go in the first half, Notre Dame began knocking on the door with multiple plays building up toward the top of the 18-yard box. At the 18 minute mark, Hurm shook her defender at the top of the box and had an open scoring chance but she mishit her strike and sent it wide of net. The Orange kept the Fighting Irish away from the final third after that, with ND registering just one more shot before the halftime whistle.
Â
Syracuse had an unlucky start to the second half, scoring an own-goal in the first five minutes off a low cross from Hurm that took a bad bounce off senior Taylor Bennett before rolling into the net. The Fighting Irish capped the night off with 24 minutes to go when Luisa Delgado found space up the left side, took a cut to the top of the box, and released a floater that curled into the left upper 90, giving Notre Dame a three-goal lead.
