Syracuse Bows Out of ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. — Syracuse tennis' five representatives returned home following a group of losses in the qualifying draw of the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The five Orange competed from Oct. 5-8 at University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center and the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park and combined for four victories.

The Orange's time in Tulsa was highlighted by freshman Polina Kozyreva going on a tear in singles pre-qualifying where she swept three opponents in straight-sets to advance to the qualifying round. Qualifying-round play saw the junior/sophomore duo of Sofya Golubovskaya/Sofya Treshcheva earn an opening round victory before bowing out after a 8-3 loss in their second match.

How it happened
Golubovskaya and Kozyreva were swept in straight sets in singles qualifying. Senior Miranda Ramirez forced a third set after dropping the first, 6-3, and taking the second, 6-2, but it wasn't meant to be as she lost, 6-2, to close out the Orange's singles matches.

Golubovskaya/Treshcheva opened qualifying-round doubles with a commanding 8-4 victory over Memphis' Aran Teixido/Laura Bente, but the pair lost, 8-3, to DePaul's Lenka Antonijevic/Yuliya Kizelbasheva to wrap up the weekend.
