
#13 Syracuse, #9 Princeton Meet in NCAA First Round

Syracuse, N.Y – Syracuse is back in the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament for the 11th time in 12 years and headed to Storrs, Conn. to take on No. 9 Princeton in the first round Friday, Nov. 15, at 2:30 p.m. The Orange (12-6) earned an at-large bid while Princeton (13-4) earned the automatic bid after posting a 7-0 record in Ivy League action this season.
Syracuse is 17-12 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and is 10-3 in first-round matchups. 'Cuse has made 10 quarterfinal appearances, 4 final four appearances and advanced to two national championship games, winning the program's first national title in 2015.
Syracuse is led offensively by All-ACC First Team selections Charlotte de Vries and Carolin Hoffmann. De Vries has a team-best 15 goals and one assist for 31 points while Hoffmann is second on the team in scoring with five goals. Goalkeeper Sarah Sinck has an 11-6 record and has guided the Orange to a 7-0 record in overtime games this season.
'Cuse has posted three road wins over top-5 opponents this season, beating No. 2 Duke, No. 3 UConn and No. 5 Louisville away from the confines of J.S. Coyne Stadium. The Orange are 5-1 in their last six outings with the only loss coming in the ACC Tournament to Louisville last weekend.
Princeton rides a 10-game win streak into the postseason. The Tigers have a 3-2 record in overtime this season with wins over No. 10 Wake Forest, Yale and No. 2 Duke. Clara Roth leads the team with 14 goals and 10 assists, while Sammy Popper and Ali McCarthy each have 10 goals.
Saturday is the 22nd time in program history Syracuse and Princeton will play each other. Princeton leads the all-time series 11-10 and Syracuse won the last meeting, 1-0, on Oct. 1, 2017. 'Cuse is 2-2 against the Tigers in the postseason. The last time the two met in the NCAA Tournament was 2015 when Syracuse beat Princeton at home to advance to its fourth Final Four.
