VICTORIA, B.C. - No. 18Â Syracuse lost, 77-59, to No. 3 Stanford Friday night in game two of the Greater Victorian Invitational presented by the City of Langford. Kiara Lewis put up 19 points and was one board shy of her first career double-double. Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi hit the 10-point mark for her third consecutive game as the only other Orange to score in double figures.
"We had a second quarter where we shot eight percent and that's going to do it for you," head coach Quentin Hillsman said. "The same thing happened against Oregon. You can't have quarters like that. Stanford is a good team and it's tough when you have short turnarounds going into these games. Our prep wasn't the same, but they had the same disadvantage. You can look at this game and see why they're the number three team in the country."

Of Note:
- Lewis' 19 points were four shy of tying her career mark set against No. 1 Oregon last sunday when she tallied a team-high 23 points.
- Lewis's nine rebounds tonight set a personal record and she tied a career-high seven free throws.
- Djaldi-Tabdi was a perfect 4-4 from the line tonight. The last time she hit that mark was Feb. 21, 2019 against Pittsburgh.
- Freshman Teisha Hyman's eight points were a personal-best since her Orange career started. She also recorded five rebounds on the night and had two steals.
- Syracuse was consistent at the charity stripe, going 22-for-26, for a season-best 86 percent from the line.
How it happened
- Both teams struggled to get going early on as just nine points were scored in the first half of the opening quarter, the Cardinal leading 5-2. By the end of the opening stanza those shooting limitations had dissolved and Stanford had a 12-9 advantage on 'Cuse.
- Stanford pulled away in the second stanza, taking a 17-point lead, 35-18, after going on an 11-0 run in the final three minutes. The Orange were limited to just one field goal in the second quarter, the rest of their points coming courtesy of free throws.
- Lewis led Syracuse in scoring after 20 minutes of play. She put up eight points on two field goals and was a perfect 4-4 from the line while also grabbing a team-high four boards.
- Stanford's lead ballooned of an 18-0 run before the Orange finally broke up the momentum with a trey from junior Digna Strautmane. Three minutes into the third, the Cardinal had a comfortable 42-21 lead. The Orange rallied after Strautmane's basket, going on a 17-4 run to close the gap to 38-47. By the end of the third, the scoreboard read 51-40 in favor of Stanford.
- The final stanza was a tighter affair as Syracuse put up 19 points to Stanford's 24, but it was too little too late as the Cardinal cruised to a 77-59 victory.
