Early Louisville Goal Bumps Syracuse from ACC Tournament

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – An early goal by 5-seed Louisville was all it took Thursday afternoon eliminating 4-seed Syracuse from the ACC Tournament. The 1-0 loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Orange (12-6) who now await their NCAA Tournament fate. The NCAA Field Hockey Selection Show is at 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 on NCAA.com.
"I thought we came out really aggressive and really strong," said head coach Ange Bradley. "Louisville played a good game. There were times they were able to open us up and we didn't make the adaptations. I think a lot of people going through something for the first time in the postseason really made us get focused on outcome versus process. This is a very disappointing loss but this group is resilient, they're gritty, and will bounce back and be ready for the postseason."
Mercedes Pastor took a pass from Whena Munn inside the left side of the circle and fired a shot to the back of the goal in the ninth minute. It held to be the game's only goal as Syracuse's Sarah Sinck made seven saves through the remainder of the game on 13 shots faced.
Syracuse was held to three shots, one on goal, in the loss and was edged 5-1 in penalty corners.
Louisville advances to Friday's quarterfinals and will face undefeated and No. 1 seed North Carolina at 1 p.m.
The Orange, who rank 12th in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll, will return to Syracuse and regroup as they wait to find out if they will make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid for the third time in the last four years.
